Free Author talk: Prof. Natalia Molina on How Restaurants Make Communities by Collage: A Place For Art and Culture
Natalia Molina, author of "A Place at the Nayarit" will talk on how restaurants build communities, followed by Q&A and book signing About this event Mac Arthur Fellow and UCLA Professor Natalia Molina is the granddaughter of a Mexican immigrant who started a much-loved restaurant, the Nayarit Cafe. In the Professor's book "A Place at the Nayarit," she explores how that restaurant nourished the community with more than food - it was a cultural oasis, meeting place, and much more. Professor Molina will explore this topic in a short talk, followed by a Q&A moderated by culinary historian Richard Foss. A book signing will follow. This is a free event and walk-ins will be accepted if space permits, but we recommend reservations. Professor Natalia Molina is proud to be donating all 2022 proceeds from her new book to No Us Without You, which provides food relief to hospitality workers who have been disenfranchised by the pandemic. She wrote this book with the same goal as No Us Without You: to support immigrant workers.
